Police Academy MagnetThe Police Academy Smaller Learning Community at San Pedro High School is a four-year program that focuses on a career in law enforcement. Students enrolled in our program participate in four years of physical training, specialized forensic science and law classes as well as computer training. We service students in grades 9 – 12 and our enrollment capacity is 120. We strive to have our students spend 5/6 of their day in our SLC classes, but our mandatory number is 3/6.
We have a primary partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department. The Department provides a sworn office to work with the students in the program daily and that officer is assigned to our school site. The officer is the backbone of the program because she provides the tie to law enforcement. Other partners include Sony Picture Studios, Advanced Tech Security and the 21st Century Insurance. These companies provide summer internships, special events and funding to the students in our program.
