San Pedro High School: All Hands on Deck!

San Pedro High School is a public high school in the Los Angeles Unified School District, with two campuses: Flagship and the John M. and Muriel Olguin Campus. Located in the city of San Pedro, Los Angeles County, the Flagship campus is divided into four different SLC’s (Small Learning Communities), one of which is Global Environmental. Global Environmental offers the capstone classes, Marine Biology, Science and Research, Zoology and International Relations, and features an advisory board headed by ITEP (International Trade Education Program). The board includes local non-profit organizations and multinational business establishments, which allows students to experience career coaching, job shadowing and internship opportunities while in high school.

San Pedro High School is fortunate to have a dedicated science teacher, Jennifer Cheng, who has created diverse learning opportunities for her students. These range from local to far-flung field trips, science fairs, community service opportunities and competitions. With an emphasis on hands-on outdoor education, her students become passionate about environmental stewardship. Mrs. Cheng is a leader in the environmental literacy movement within her district.
