San Pedro High School
Advancement Via Individual Detemination

On September 2004, San Pedro High School opened a new "AVID" program or "School-within-a-School" for University-bound students who have demonstrated academic success in Middle School.

AVID is a college-prep program in which students work with a team of trained, experienced teachers to prepare for the rigors of AP classes and admissions to and success in competitive 4-year colleges and universities. The AVID elective class, in which students participate all four years, provides specialized college study skills, Cornell Note-taking and tutorials in core subjects, in addition to college and career planning.

The AVID teachers and counselor have received special training in study skills and Cornell Notes, and are dedicated to working together as a team to ensure the success and preparation for college of the AVID students.
