The English Department at San Pedro High School recognizes that reading, writing, listening, and speaking are the gateway skills for success in education an careers and for full participation in society, and thus is committed to the English-language arts content standards for California public schools. A standards-based curriculum represents a rigorous emphasis on the skills, knowledge, and abilities that all students should be able to master in language arts: those of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Content standards are comprehensive and specific, and align with statewide testing, instructional materials, professional development, etc. All English courses offered at San Pedro High School for grades 9 through 12 represent our commitment to education.
