Acceptance Letters Delivered and AVID 9th graders scheduled in the AVID Elective | | | WHAT IS AVID? | AVID is a college-prep program and intervention in which "middle of the road" students work with a team of trained, experienced teachers to prepare for the rigors of AP classes and admissions to and success in competitive 4-year colleges and universities. The AVID elective class, in which students participate all four years, provides specialized college study skills, high level thinking through Cornell Notes and tutorials in core subjects, in addition to college and career planning. The student entering the program that fits our profile is the "student in the middle" specifically a student with: - a GPA of 2.3-3.4
- no FBB or BB on math or English CST scores
- no Advanced scores on both math and English
- motivation and need for guidance in getting into college
Once a student has been enrolled in the program we expect that they will demonstrate success in grades, CST scores, and enroll in honors and AP classes. Please click on the following to download a four-year plan for AVID students suggested coursework . Currently, we have four elective classes of 9th, 10th, 11th and our Senior Seminar, a total of 110 students. It's been five years since San Pedro High School opened this new “AVID” program for university-bound ‘students in the middle’. We are now in full swing and looking to expand our services. Learn about the program by reading below and downloading the brochure. The AVID teachers, counselor, and administrator have received special training in study skills and Cornell Notes, and are dedicated to working together as a team to ensure the success and preparation for college of the AVID students.
